The PRGA Program welcomes the appointment of Patricia Biermayr-Jenzano as our new Program Coordinator, a position she will assume as of next November 14, 2008.
Dr. Patricia Biermayr-Jenzano was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina where she received her Agricultural Engineering degree in Plant Science. She holds both M.S. and Ph.D. in Agricultural Extension and Social Anthropology from Cornell University, NY.
Her research work has deep roots in Participatory Action Research (PAR) theory and learning tools, while she has also been involved in mainstreaming gender in agriculture and conservation-related efforts.
She previously worked for FAO as a Regional Project Coordinator based in San José, Costa Rica, covering the Central America Region, supporting and developing interdisciplinary approaches to enhance food security and health through a gender- sensitive perspective.
Patricia has also conducted research and field work in the Andes region, mainly in Bolivia and Peru, and also in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. In the US, she worked for Cornell Cooperative Extension as an Extension Associate in the Program Planning and Development Division and for the Expanded Food and Nutrition Program (EFNEP).
Later, she received a Fellowship Award from The University of Michigan, Center for Population Studies and was based in Washington DC. As a Michigan Fellow, she worked with a variety of partners, including Universities, NGOs, CBOs and governmental bodies located in Southeast Asia and Latin America. She provided technical assistance to field-based projects concerning the integration of population, gender and biodiversity conservation.
Dr Biermayr-Jenzano has worked as a consultant for the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) in the Communication and the Food Consumption and Nutrition Divisions (FCND). She is also a Visiting Scholar at the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University in Washington DC.
