UN envoy to Liberia praises the role of women at all levels of Government

Speaking at a high-level forum in Liberia, which is run by Africa’s only female president, the top United Nations envoy to the country praised the role of women at all levels of Government, saying they bring a “different perspective” to development and stressing the benefits of their involvement, particularly in the health and education sectors.

Thousands of girls go to school

The Girls’ Education Programme of the FDC (Community Development Foundation) has for eight years benefited more than 10,000 girls, through incentives for schooling and professional training. Since it was created eight years ago, the programme has granted almost 150 scholarships in Mozambique and abroad.

This publication explores the ways in which rural roads impact poverty and what the determinants of these impacts are. It uses in-depth information from six case study villages through which Asian Development Bank-financed rural roads traversed. This is one of the few empirical research studies in this subject area containing in-depth quantitative and qualitative information on the process by which rural roads benefit the poor.
